The Overview:
Murphy’s Money is a one-day course aimed at serving young adults ages 14+. This course provides information that students commonly feel would’ve been beneficial to learn in their high school courses. Topics include, (1) How
to Build a Budget, (2) How to Build Credit, (3) How to Start Investing, (4) Managing Student Loans (5) How to File Taxes, (6) What’s a 401K and How to Plan for Retirement, and (7) How to Promote Well-Being. Each of these topics include a tangible guideline or resource (i.e. excel sheets, handouts) that are provided to the students as part of the course. Additional sub-topics are included within each of the seven lessons to make the information easily digestible and able to be learned by any type of student. A comprehensive and interactive example of each lesson is completed to provide students a discernible way to learn.
The Background: Despite having 3 completed college degrees and a 4th on the way, my fiancé Rachel and I began to notice gaps in our financial education. Over the past few years we've had to teach ourselves in order to begin creating a successful foundation for our future.
There is a missing piece to high school curriculum and that is...FINANCIAL LITERACY.
If Rachel and I had learned the basics to building a budget, applying for student loans, or filing taxes in high school then we wouldn't have had to learn from our mistakes during college and young adult life to start becoming financially sound and independent.
We created Murphy's Money to serve as a learning opportunity for others so that they don't have to go through the same struggles or mistakes that we did.
If you, your child, or someone you know would benefit from a course like this then sign them up for our course here.
We will be hosting a virtual session from 9am -1pm on Saturday January 28th. Tickets are limited and currently discounted for those who register soon!
So why choose us...?
Rachel and Vinny are an engaged couple located in Dallas, TX that have developed a passion for financial literacy by way of their own experiences. They met in 2017 at Texas A&M University and have spent the last few years learning the best ways to set themselves up for a successful future, while still maintaining a happy and balanced lifestyle.
About Rachel:
Rachel is a graduate of Texas A&M University who is well on her way to becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the State of Texas. She grew up in Corpus Christi, TX and then went on to graduate from Texas A&M in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Business. Since then, she has started pursuing her Master of Science in Counseling at Southern Methodist University - a degree she is set to obtain by Summer 2023. The courses she’s taken have led her to have a deeper understanding of what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. Rachel is passionate about teaching others the steps to promote well-being and she hopes to use Murphy's Money as a platform to do this.
About Vinny:
Vinny is a licensed CPA through the State of Texas who utilizes his experience as a consultant to set the foundation for his financial knowledge. Vinny was born and raised in Orange, TX and later attended Texas A&M University, where he completed both a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Science in Management Information Systems. He currently holds a consulting position where he has gained experience working on the divestitures of super-major oil and gas firms, and also audits and ESG system implementations of Fortune 500 clients. The lessons he’s learned along the way have led him to pursue Murphy's Money, in hopes of providing the necessary skills that he wished he would have learned in high school.
About the Name:
Who is Murphy?
Murphy is the 5 lb toy poodle that served as the inspiration for our courses name. Our dog Murphy may not know much about financial literacy but he sure does create a more complete and happy family amongst Rachel and myself.
When determining a name for the course we couldn't help but pay homage to the pup in our life who brings us so much joy and inspiration.
Murphy loves going for long walks around the neighborhood (although after a while he gets tired and takes to his stroller for the remainder of the walk). Additionally, he loves playing with his food, taking naps, and the occasional piece of shredded cheese.
Murphy serves as a constant sense of love and responsibility for us. Without the emotional support provided from this special pup, we probably wouldn't have had the courage to venture out and create this course.
