Top 3 Coolest Guys of All-Time - A Debate

Let me preface this by saying that some people reading this might feel like I am directing this article specifically to them. If you feel that way - you're probably right.

Throughout history there's been icons that have completely changed the direction of modern culture. These icons span a wide variety of skillsets and professions. These icons were both loved and hated. These icons changed the game while others merely adopted it. These icons had different backgrounds, ethnicities, and ways of life. But the one thing that all these icons had in common?

They were COOL.

A question that I like to pose to my friends is "Who are the top 3 coolest guys in the world?"

Without a doubt, a discussion always sparks. The only rule is that to qualify and make into your list of top 3 coolest, they must still be living. Other than that, pick your 3, and make your case as to why they are the coolest.

Recently some of the more common names to have come up have been guys like Matthew McConaughey, Drake, LeBron James, Tom Brady, and Kirk Herbstreit.

Just kidding about that last one.

But as you can see some are athletes, some are pop stars, and some are actors. Everyone has a different criteria for picking their three and so the lists of top three drastically differ from person to person.

Personally, when considering what makes someone the coolest guy in the world. I look at how impressive their skillset is (i.e. are they a singer, an actor, both?), the longevity of their career (were they a one-hit wonder?), and lastly, how recognizable are they? If the person is only recognizable as "cool" to a very niche market of the population then they don't qualify for my list.

For the reasons listed above, I think it's time I tell you the easy choice for number one coolest guy in the world - Justin Timberlake.

I tend to get a lot of backlash when I tell people this, but I refuse to waver in my belief despite how much my friends in "Thrasher" t-shirts and combat boots tell me that The Weeknd is a better choice.

To expand, I chose JT for 3 reasons. (1) He walks into a room and he is immediately the best singer, dancer and actor in the room, (2) JT has been famous since he was about 16 years old and has continued to thrive in all aspects listed in point #1, and (3) he's cross generational - you know who he is, your mom knows who he is, and every person in America born prior to 2005 knows who he is.

Now, I know there are other quality candidates that I should definitely consider, but like I said - this is an opinion piece, so take it or leave it. In addition, because of the fact that my friends do feel so passionately about telling me how JT isn't even in their top 20 - I leave my last two spots on the list open to be convinced by their dramatic and emotion-driven arguments for their candidates.

So in closing, I encourage you to spark this discussion with your friends, think about who your top three are, and always remember that your mom still loves JT more.
