My most recent guest on Up to the Mic is a graduate of Texas A&M University who has recently landed an acting career in Los Angeles, California. In addition to his love for acting, he's also amassed a following of close to 50,000 followers on his TikTok channel where he shows his best tips and tricks for being as fit as you can be.
Not only that, I have the honor of calling this gentleman a great friend - Jacob Mathiasmeier.
The Backstory
Jacob Mathiasmeier began his journey in Katy, TX where he grew up with a family of extremely high achievers.
From his father's background as a Texas Tech football player to his sisters background of being a special disability nurse and finally to his older brother being a University of Columbia football player turned high profile investment banker.
There is unprecedented motivation and drive in the Mathiasmeier family - Jacob is no different.
After turning down an offer to play football at Carnegie Mellon, Jacob decided to pursue a degree in business at Texas A&M University. Shortly after arriving on campus Jacob was making a difference and being accepted into prestigious organizations such as Business Honors, Maroon Coats, and One Army - of which he held leadership positions in.
So how did acting come into play...?
One summer Jacob accepted an internship offer and decided to relocate for a few months to Los Angeles, California. During his time there he would work Monday through Thursday and then pursue gigs as a background actor on Fridays and Saturdays.
Many times his roles as a background character would consists of him working through the night until 4 or 5am to ensure that the scene was shot perfectly. Nonetheless, Jacob began to fall in love and discover his true passion for acting.
One Sunday after Mass, his priest there in LA asked him to lunch. After sitting and talking for hours, the priest mentioned that he wanted to introduce Jacob to a friend and talent agent that he knows named Pierre.
Shortly thereafter, Jacob and Pierre would hit it off and Jacob became fully invested in his acting career.
What happened next...?
After much thought and encouragement from his friends and family, Jacob decided to return home to Texas A&M and graduate a semester early so that he could move to LA and continue pursuing his acting career.
He's now currently acting in a few roles and has a new short film coming out soon. In 2 short weeks Jacob will be packing his bags and officially moving to LA to chase his dream of becoming a professional actor.
